What to do and not to do at your Office Party!

Perles RH

As we are approaching the office party festivities, Pearls HR team decided to play a little game listing the Do’s and Don’ts  during the Christmas office season, in order to avoid the walk of shame or other embarrassing or compromising situations among your colleagues.

Let’s start with what you should do to leave a good impression:

  • Attend the event! People are expecting to see you, take the time to be there and let yourself be carried away by the festivities for an evening.
  • Mingle with the colleagues you don’t or haven gotten the chance to speak with, or that you don’t often get a chance to work with, create new contacts build new relationships.
  • Thank the people who put a lot of time and effort into organizing the event.
  • Drink water between your drinks, pace yourself and Drink responsibly!
  • Plan your ride home safely!

Now, while some behaviours may seem acceptable, it would be better to refrain from some actions in certain situations:

  • Don’t go to your supervisor to ask for a promotion! Rather, take advantage of the opportunity to make a good impression and thereby give yourself more chances when you will see a posting and you’ll be tempted to apply.
  • Do not complain about the evening if you don’t necessarily appreciate what has been planned. Avoid negative comments during the event, rather keep your impressions for yourself, to avoid hurting people who have put a lot of energy to organize the whole thing.
  • This is not the place to flirt with your colleagues or your boss. Avoid being too demonstrative, keep your impulses out of your work environment.
  • Avoid making any promises! Do not reveal your greatest secrets neither.
  • Don’t take your car if you are intoxicated.  Be attentive as well for your colleagues, don’t let anyone you feel isn’t apt to drive take their car, signal a manager or the dedicated resources. Call a taxi or Nez Rouge.
  • Do not spend your entire evening on your cell phone and be careful with the use of your camera, postings, Facebook or instagram stories and posts.
  • It is not well perceived to call in sick the day after the party, especially if it was not already planned. Make an effort and leave early if you think you will not be able to wake up the next morning.

To finish it up on a good note, we wish you a fun and enjoyable holiday party season, remember to thank your host, and appreciated the recognition your employer is giving you for the hard work you have put in this year.

We wish you a happy holiday season!
